Congress may move EC again against Narendra Modi's comment on IM, CBI

Nov 14, 2013

New Delhi: The Congress is planning on moving the Election Commission again against BJP prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi over his comments at an election rally in Bahraich where he said that terror group Indian Mujahideen and CBI will hold ground for the Congress in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

The Congress is demanding strong action against Modi for this statement. This is the second time in less than a week that the Congress has complained to the EC.

Continuing his attack on the Congress, Modi had accused the party of going easy towards terror outfits and using the CBI against its opposition.

Last week the Congress had asked the EC to look into Modi's comment where he refered to Congress' political symbol as 'khooni panja' for which he was issued a notice on November 13 by the Election Commission for an alleged model code of conduct violation.

In its communication to Chief Election Commissioner VS Sampath, Congress accused the BJP prime ministerial candidate of making "intemperate, malicious and defamatory" remarks by referring to the hand symbol, allotted by the Commission to the Congress, as "khooni panja" and "jalim haath".

Meanwhile, the Election Commission has asked Modi to explain by 5 pm on November 16 why action should not be initiated against him for the alleged model code of conduct violation.
